Slow
Other then the slow play, everything else was great. Nice course, plays long, quick greens.
Overpriced and lots of trees removed
If your going for lunch it’s nice but if your going for golf think again. This may have at one time been a beautiful golf course and ranked high but it is not anymore. It is overpriced the first thing it says on golfnow is it’s on a beautiful piece of property on the gulf of Mexico. Well the golf course has no view of any water but the hazards, the trees have been all ripped out in between the different fairways. Don’t waste your hundred bucks on this course very disappointed.
Nice course, great greens
The course layout and conditions were great. The pace of play was excruciating. Some self-absorbed group found a quasi-Ryder Cup thing took so long that we were left in the dark(literally). It's a resort course with old, slow folks and the aforementioned group tying up things. Too bad. It's a great course
Time of year lots of brown
Lots of brown turf, greens fast and course getting a lot of foliage removed
Top Notch
Hurricanes and staff have made this tract much more playable by removing wilderness trees. New greens are awesome as well. They are also the only course I have found with green dyed fairways. That is a welcome sight in winter.
Amazing greens
Greens were fast but true, course was in amazing shape for late January. 3 hour 20 minutes for a round , never had to wait on a single tee box. Or fairway
Best Condition in Area
In a week staying at the the resort I was able to play the course at Kiva Dunes twice. It was a cold and sometimes rainy week, but things turned out great for me and my group. In both rounds we had the course to ourselves. No pace of play issues as we were able to make our way around the grounds unhindered by other golfers.
Kiva Dunes Resort is an amazing facility with lots of great lodging options, fantastic dining (though limited in winter) and a very friendly staff.
The golf course is a fun stretch of mostly back and forth links style holes. There are plenty of lakes and swamps to avoid during the round. Fairways are quite wide and generous. Driver is a good option on most holes that are not a par 3.
Look out for a few directional posts in the fairway to guide blind tee shots. While the course is pretty flat, players have a few decisions to make off the tee. Especially on the great par 4 ninth and possibly driveable short 10th. The closing stretch gives a nice test leading back to the iconic clubhouse building.
Starting with the par 5 15th with a tough elevated green, hole 17 is a difficult par 3 with water all the way up the left, and the closing hole demands a good tee shot while avoiding water down the right side.
While the course lacks a variety of hole shapes, the green complexes are anything but boring. Many of the greens are elevated, large, and most have multiple levels to put hole locations. Shots left in the wrong spot are a three put waiting to happen.
Conditions at Kiva were very good, definitely the greenest we saw in south Alabama that week. Fairways and tee boxes were well manicured. The greens were very firm and rolled quite fast. There are some changes in grain making them difficult to read in some spots. Tricky, but quite fun to putt on!
Overall this is a very fun golf course. There is plenty out there for both novice and scratch golfers to enjoy. The course is not punishing off the tee and there are plenty of opportunities to score. All in a beautiful setting near the gulf. A must play when in South Alabama!

Best in Gulf Shores area
Great course layout. Well maintained. Drains after rain exceptionally well and wildlife on the course is an added attraction.
Alabama Links
Beautiful Alabama style links course, challenging but fair. You can score here if you hit it straight and putt well
Lived up to the expectations.
Came down to Gulf Shores for the first time to visit the area and play some golf. Kiva Dunes was highly recommended. I booked on Golf Now to ensure a tee time. (Did not know they offer a military discount) the course was as I expected. It's set out on a narrow part of the peninsula with lots of sand hazards and water features. I was very happy with the difficulty of the layout. To play well here you have to know your distances with your clubs. It also helped that a color yardage guide was provided with the score card. The course condition was incredible! The greens were very challenging and fast. The staff were some of the friendliest people I've met at a golf course. Overall, I had a great time and will definitely be coming back.
Not bad, reminds me of Tinder profile
Had a last minute opportunity to play, and the pictures of the course looked fantastic. In real life, not so much. Like a dating app and people putting pics that remotely resemble them. The greens and fairways in good shape, free range balls, beer carts where plentiful. Not worth $145, though.
Windy Day
Beautiful course rained hard the day before and dried out with 90 degrees. It was a windy day.
Overpriced due to course conditions
Course as a whole was very dry with some extreme dried out areas. Greens ran very fast and most could not hold a shot. Ground crews removing foliage in several areas and the once attractive course looks so barren that some holes look unrecognizable.
