RTJ Bucket list course
Made it a point to play an RTJ trail course and was in the Biloxi area, so I drove over to play this one. Certainly glad I did.
The staff was fantastic, the course, Falls, beautiful. The weather was ideal and I would go back in a heartbeat.
The course plays long for me. Lots of contours and the greens slicker than what I am used to. The back 9 seemed to be more challenging than the front. We had the reduced rate of twilight at 2pm and we didn't see anyone else come up behind us until #12.
One of the Best Par 3 courses in America
Magnolia Grove is part Alabama's Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. I have had the pleasure of living near this course and playing here since the course opened in 1992. My most recent visit was after over a year layoff from golf due to injury.
The Short Course is consistently ranked in the Top 10 nationwide by most reputable golf publications and in my view has always lived up to its reputation.
I played the course with my daughter, a high school golfer, on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. There was no one in front of us so we were able to play at our normal fast pace. There was also no one behind us, which allowed us to play multiple tee shots when desired.
The greens were in great condition and rolled true. Care should be taken when aiming at the greens, as most of them have three distinct levels which can lead to multiple extra putts. Multiple tee boxes provide tee shots ranging from 80 yards to over 200 yards.
Sand and or water are in play on every hole, so don't think of this as an easy "executive" course. This is truly 18 championship level par 3 holes strung together to make a challenging and enjoyable golf experience.
If you are playing in the Mobile, AL area, take a few extra hours and play the Short Course. You will not be disappointed.
my first taste of the trail
this was my first time playing a course on the RTJ trail. really enjoyed this course. fantastic layout, with stunning views and very well maintained tee to green. unfortunately the day we played the greens seemed to be overseeded or something and were running incredibly slow. that was somewhat frustrating, but didn't change my opinion that the course is great!
the view on 18 tee is just stunning. what a hole.
definitely check out this course!
Great layout
The course was extremely wet.We were told before hand regarding it's condition.Played the other layout last year so we wanted to try the Falls course. Greens were rough since grass wasn't yet growing.
outstanding
Grest course. Challenging par 3's, risk & rewards par 5's. Will make trip back from Nola soon
Awesome
Course was Amazing as usual ! Greens were in Great Shape !!
Such beautiful surroundings!
The Crossings Course at Magnolia Grove was our first RTJ golf experience. The staff was so helpful and informative that we want to play other courses soon. This course was very challenging to me, but I am a high handicapper without long shots. I could not carry over water on a couple of holes. My husband really enjoyed the course and was happy it was so well marked for first-timers!
Lots of walking, since the no-cart areas were a fair distance from the greens. Of course for better players, that's a non issue.
We highly recommend!!
First RTJ Golf Trail Experience - A Good One
Played here a few days after they almost got washed away with 11" of rain over 2 days. The course was in pretty good shape, although some of the bunkers - especially on the back nine - were still in pretty rough shape. Enjoyed the course. Moderately challenging. Grill staff and starter were great. Pro shop staff and bag drop acted like we were an interruption to their day instead of customers. Paul, the GM, came through when we left an item behind. He tracked it down and got it back to us. Thank you! Recommend if in the area.
Great Course even after all these years
We hadn't played here in maybe 20 years but the course was still in great condition. The cost was a little high but we played in the afternoon which helped lower it some.
Course was good but the other was better
We played both the Crossing and the Falls and I think the Falls was more interesting. Both courses are in good shape. We played in the afternoon and the weather was great. Didn't see alot of other players so it was as if we owed the course. Wish the Players card was available to out of town golfers
Lives up to the hype
Had been looking forward to playing a RTJ course for several years. We played both The Crossings and The Falls at Magnolia Grove both lived up to the hype. A great collection of Par 3's. Both courses were in great shape greens rolled true. The bunkers were truly one shot penalties as the fine sand made it difficult to advance and led to plugged lies. The starters were friendly and helpful. Lunch at clubhouse between rounds was superb, I highly recommend the chili dog. Looking forward to playing more RTJ courses in the future.
Service poor at first, but others made up for it.
Greeting from guy in pro shop was poor-like we were an inconvenience for him-but other than that the service was good and the course was in great condition. Lots of variety in the course set up and it's hard but fair. Play from the right tees.
We played as a twosome and the starter asked us to go just a little early so we were in a good place for pace of play. Appreciated the consideration.
Challenging Course
I'm from Ohio wintering in Mobile as a Trail Member, this is my main home course while in Alabama. Playing the Falls Course almost daily.
You can test your skills at golf on the Falls Course. Of the two courses at this site, this one is the more difficult.
On the Falls Course the fairways are full of terrain change, humps, bumps, and slopes; you will seldom get a flat stance. From the tees you can generally do pretty well by using the 150 markers as a line for your ball flight. From the tee's there are several holes where you won't see your landing area from the tee. Plenty of doglegs to keep things interesting. There are water hazards and swamps that aren't too difficult to carry or avoid. Fairway bunkers can be quite punitive. Most of the green-side bunkers aren't too bad to get out of. The cut rough isn't too bad to hit from, get into the woods though and you have some work to do. The greens are quite large and receptive to high shots into the greens. Your iron play and making approach shots will be tested on all holes. Read all putts carefully, if your line and speed aren't right on some of these greens you're in a collection area with a challenge to get up and down.
The staff is excellent. The clubhouse is first class. Food is unusually good for a golf course. Pace of play is fast. Practice facility is excellent. Three pro's on staff. All in all, a well managed golf facility.
An LPGA Tour host that's fun for guys and gals
Magnolia Grove, just 14 miles west of downtown Mobile, regularly hosts the Airbus LPGA Classic on its Crossings Course. I last played here in 2010 right after an extensive multi-million-dollar remodeling job upgraded the course. More than 5,000 trees were removed, and green complexes were altered and mostly softened. New water features, like the pond fronting the par 3 at no. 14, add more drama. Like most LPGA Tour venues, it won't beat you up.
Wow
What a gem. Really enjoyed the look of the whole course. Greens and fairways in great condition. Friendly staff. Great golf facility
"beautiful day"
Thank you for a wonderful experience and a beautiful day at Magnolia Grove (Trent Jones Golf Trail).
My wife and I had a delightful experience playing the course which was in excellent condition.
Hope to play here again next year!!
Thanks

It's RTJ Trail
All the trail courses are kept in pretty good condition and are a good test of golf but they need to upgrade many aspects of their operation. I didn't find the staff to be helpful although the starter did his job. When you go to these courses you have to walk a long distance to get to the clubhouse, tee boxes and greens. Overall, they are nice tracks but I think they cater to large groups as opposed to just regular players.
This course has a waterfall!
I played after severe rainfall the night before. It was very wet in places and cart path only. The course requires every club in the bag which I love. The waterfall between 8 & 9 was awesome! Greens were perfect. I can't wait to return and play under normal fairway conditons.
worth the drive from Florida
I'm never disappointed by a trip to Magnolia Grove. The short course, the Falls, and the Crossings are all outstanding tracks.
Despite lots of recent rain, the greens were still relatively fast and particularly challenging to putt from positions above the holes; sometimes the undulations force you to be conservative and settle for a safe two putt. I love the views from the tees and fairways on these courses; more than half the holes could be featured on a postcard or calendar. The dramatic terrain is especially fun for golfers coming from flat areas like south Florida. I appreciate how many of the holes feel isolated from the rest of the course; it often makes you feel like your group is out there alone (perhaps on less busy days only?).
Definitely a place to play!
Loved the course! Layout made sense and visually beautiful. Greens and fare ways were well-maintained, however we were caught in a torrential downpour for 10 minutes and eventually the horn blew warning of lightening. We eventually returned, but the precariousness of weather was always looming. I would recommend this course, but not in the summer. Staff was very friendly.
