Baytowne Golf Club at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort is routed from the beach to the bay, providing stunning views along the way. The course rolls across the few elevation changes that the area has to offer. Although it opened in 1984, the golf course didn't reach its peak until it underwent extensive renovation in 2005, which were carried out by the original designer, Tom Jackson. The layout features rolling fairways lined with mature pines that are generous and times but can be tight when you least expect it. The large, undulating greens can also play faster than what you might be expecting. Water, which comes into play on 12 holes, is a prominent feature of Baytowne Golf Club as are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout.

First Time Playing

I got there an hour early planning to hit some balls at the range to warm up. Unfortunately, I was told the range is closed today because “they are doin stuff”. However, from the time I arrived until the time I teed off there was no one doing anything out at the driving range.

Once I teed off the pace of play was slow, and I never saw a ranger all day.

The layout was fun and the course was in good shape - especially the greens.

Over rated

Outside staff was very friendly. Behind the counter staff was not good. They acted put out and not wanting to be there. Play was slow. Had to wait on almost every shot. Greens had not been cut. Putting was a waste of time. I have putted on faster shaggy carpet. Okay layout. Played the links course and everything was better.
Great views .

Baytown Golf

I like Baytown at Sandestin but was disappointed with the greens. I admit it is winter but other courses in the area had far better greens. The greens were green but long and very, very, slow. You could hardly putt on them and they were also not consistent.

Course was good.Golf bag guys weren’t very helpful or friendly. Driving range small not enough spaces at the range. Came early and had to wait at least 20 minutes for a driving range spot.

Signage and golf carts

This was our first time playing this course. Our entire foursome found getting from one hole to the next was beyond difficult. The worst signage to navigate from one hole to the next. Next our cart was malfunctioning from the very star and continued during our entire round. The problem was: When you put the cart in reverse you had to physically bang on the switch several times to get into the forward. Both the cart attendants knew about this problem and acted as it was normal. In fact one said we could switch carts, but other carts may have this same problem. And the cart windshield was extremely dirty. Where is the manage? We will not be coming back.

Decent course

Had a nice round (7:40 AM tee time) playing with a father and son from Ohio. Busy pro shop check-in since it also serves the Raven course. Conditions were very good except the greens, which were extremely slow. Could have been cut more and rolled but perhaps they were left a little long for cutting and rolling for a junior amateur tournament that was coming up on the weekend. Got a $65 deal, regular $99.

Links Course Sandestin

The Links Course Pro Shop is located upstairs along with the restrooms. This is very is vey inconvenient and contributes to slow play.

Several of the sand traps are not maintained on both the Links and Baytowne courses, essentially mid holes and unplayable.

About half the time the driving ranges are closed because of wet conditions. It seems like with all the revenue these course receive they could maintain the driving range and sand traps.

Baytowne

The course was very good however the greens were very, very slow compared to other courses I've played. Spent 18 holes trying to get the ball to the hole. Almost seemed as though the greens were not mowed.
