Timberlane Golf & Recreation
About
When Timberlane Golf & Recreation opened in 1959 as Timerlane Country Club, it was the first private golf club on the west bank of the Mississippi. The oaks planted at that time have beautifully matured, adding to both the scenery and difficulty of the golf course. Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed the course, crafting a challenging test that has been ranked as one of the most difficult golf courses in the country. You'll have to contend with 80 strategically placed sand bunkers and 17 different water hazards. While the course is not overly punishing, you'll have to be prepared to have every aspect of your game tested. Before tackling Timberlane''s golf course you may find it helpful to warm up using the club's all-grass driving range and you can use the large putting green to practice with putting, chipping, and sand play.

good for the buck
Fairways need some works. It’s only spring and the fairways is already hard. I can’t imagine when summer comes how much harder it gets
The Greens
Man they have really gotten their greens together (WOW)
Good for the money
Good bargain, but pace of play was slow. No one out on the course to speed up play.
Great value for the money
I am certainly not a "regular" or even a "decent" golfer (happy if I break 120), so I have not been to many courses. But what a nice course this is! My friend and I got there about 40 minutes early, and although the chip/putt area was closed, we still were able to loosen up and get to the first tee early. I will admit I am not the fastest player, especially because I have no distance on my shots (yet), but the people behind us were patient (thanks guys!). This is February, so I wouldn't expect the grass to be in great condition. But I was surprised with the quality of the holes (especially the greens!), and had no problems at all with the condition of the course...especially the front nine. The back nine is long, so I know people behind us must have been a bit frustrated. My apologies for that. Also, the trees and the weather have torn up the cart path in a few places, and maybe those areas could be re-paved. Thanks for having an available and (mostly) clean bathroom on the back nine. Overall, I am looking forward to retuning to Timberlane. Thank you!
Greens and water hazards
The greens were in great shape. The water hazards could be marked more clearly, especially as to how far out they extend.
Becoming a member
I've played Timberline quite a few times over the years and have admired it. Seriously seeking what I consider a good golf course to become a member as soon as I can. Although I'd have to consider the golf course in a winter rule conditions the greens were in pretty good shape. The fairways were quite bare but it looked as though grounds were working actively in getting them ready for spring season. The girl at the front counter was very helpful in getting me information in a folder about all membership activities + dues. It made me very interested in what I'm looking for in a good golf course membership.
Challenging, yet fun
Timberlane remains one of the better public courses in the area. Tee boxes offer a variety of options for all levels of players. The fairways are somewhat tight, bunkers are difficult (more sand needed) and the greens are in very good shape. The range is adequate as is the short game area. At a normal pace of play, one can complete a round in three and a half hours.
Be aware of playing on a Holiday
Booked a hot deal for the morning of MLK day for $30 per golfer. Got to the course and the staff said GolfNow has it wrong and it’s the holiday rate of $52. Never knew that or knew that there was a 1 hour frost delay. Kitchen was also closed so don’t come hungry. Overall good layout and improved conditions.
Greens Have Improved Noticeably
Looks like they have fixed the greens from last time I played. Still some of the approach to the greens need work. Course of play was extremely slow this day, but it did pick up towards the turn.
Better than couple years ago
1st time here in 2 yrs. course is in good winter shape. Greens are very good. Tee to green is a little soggy but that’s the area. Seems people are working on things and it shows. just a little further to go.
Looking for something new
I wanted to travel out of Baton Rouge to find a new place to play so I found timberlane on golf now for a good price so I booked it and made a ride the staff was very friendly and accommodating when I arrived....they have a nice driving range as well...the fairways were small with houses on each side some holds(nice big houses) the course has a lot of force carries and lots of bunkers(although I only got in one) the layout was very challenging...the only things was the greens were very fuzzy and slow which I was told was b/c they weren’t cut because of the weather( lots of rain recently) and some greens had bare spots which were covered with sand overall a nice trip I will be back ( especially if the greens get better)
Greens were punched but we weren’t notified. Otherwise course was great
