The course at Tiger Point runs alongside the Intracoastal Waterway, offering panoramic ocean views. The course was designed in the tradition of classic Scottish links golf courses but with the added feature of water, which comes into play on 14 holes. A generous sprinkling of towering southern pines sets the layout apart as well. Originally a nine-hole course, another nine was added in 1984 and in 1989, then was another redesign of the golf course. Since then, it has becomes one of the Pensacola area's most treasured courses. Tiger Point also offers a driving range, practice bunker, two practice greens, and a chipping green.

Horrible greens!

The greens were mostly dead and it was near impossible to get a straight roll from the ball due to the dead or dying grass or red clay bumps. Fairways were a little long but at least they were green.

Could be great

This was a nice day but windy. Paired up with a twosome and another single. This made for a great day. This course could be great if the city would put a little money in it and a lot of watering. The fairways are awesome. The greens are ok but at least half had bad brown spots. There was sand on them so at least they were trying to fix them. Very good test of golf and overall had an enjoyable time. I will play again and hope the city will do their part.

Special Treatment

Myself and 4 other friends had a tee time of 2:04 PM. We decided to split our group into a twosome and threesome so we could get through the course a tiny bit faster and not hold anyone up. My friend and I are the twosome and just as we're about to finish the 1st hole the club pro guy rolls up and asks if our group can start over and let a group pass us. The words he used specifically were "This group is really good and they play really fast, they'll just be on your a** all day." I told him "Yea they can pass, we'll just finish up and they can pass us on 2." He says "No I need you guys to start over. You can have some free range balls after your 18." (I don't want your effing range balls AFTER i just played 18 holes and smashing beers.)

At this point I'm like what in the world is going on.. I look back and see my other three friends already drove back to the tee box. When we get there we start talking and watch this fivesome to complete the hole. They finish up and I tee up my ball thinking it's go time and only to see the club pro come back out and say there are two more groups we have to let pass before we can start.

NOW I'm getting mad. I paid for a certain tee time and these old dudes have some type of club privilege nonsense that lets 15 people get ahead of us. Just to back track a little, I always ask when i pay for the round how busy is it and the guy at the register said a tournament just finished and it would be dead for the rest of the day. Anyways, when the club pro comes back he gives us 5 gatorades for the inconvenience. We tell him "Hey man you're delaying our game by 30-45 minutes. can we get like a free 9 holes or something?" He says no we can either get a refund or wait it out. One of my friends says "Look we're paying customers and we play every week. you might end up losing some business on this." The pro responds with "yea thats fine, these guys play everyday" My friend comes back with "Ok I'll just go eff MYSELF then and walks away."

Ended up just playing as a fivesome and being mad the whole time.

What a mess

Got there and then found out our foursome could only play the back nine twice (maintenance on the front 9). Finished nine holes went back to 10 tee,, started to play and watched a least 4 twosomes skip past us to the next holes. From then on we were backed up (2-3 groups on each hole) until we quit after 4 holes. Saw the marshall and he said he couldn't do anything about it. Course condition was dry, greens had many brown spots. We left the course and I politely told the pro shop staff about the situation. No response. We won't be back.

Long drive from Miramar Beach

I've been eyeing Tiger Pointe for a few weeks because of recommendations from fellow golfers, but have been putting off playing there because the drive is considerable from our rental house. Finally I pressed the button and set up a round there.

I will say the course is exceptional, or used to be, or could be with some attention to a few maintenance issues. Basically, it is a really nice layout, the greens are some of the best I've played on in the area, and the surrounding scenery is wonderful. However, pace of play was absolutely atrocious. There apparently was a scheduled mega group ahead of our tee time that proceeded at a glacial pace. It took my group close to five hours to finish, and not because WE were slow players. We all can play and advance the ball well and don't waste time on and around the greens. If only everybody followed the same approach the game would be so much more enjoyable. If courses can't, or won't, enforce pace of play they will eventually tarnish their reputations beyond repair. I understand the need for revenue, but they need to stop going for the cheapest green fees if that means they will attract the slowest players who will clog the life out of the round.

I would recommend the course to accomplished players who will appreciate it for its fine architecture and challenges. After all, I believe it hosted a PGA event at some point. If you can't keep a good pace going and you know that, please play somewhere that is less demanding.

I will return some day, despite the hour plus drive one way. But before I do, I'll be sure to scope out the pro shop for any scheduled events or large groups. Great course, but not for beginners or slow players.

Rough greens

Greens usually fast, curvy, and difficult; greens rough right now, possibly due to some type of maintenance being done? Extensive water hazards most holes. Also, I think the course is at least 25% overpriced, when compared to comparable or better courses in same area. Best vale may be Hidden Creek GC.

Tough course

To hard for the average golfer. I play to a 12 handicap. I lost half a dozen balls and had a hard time carrying over hazards. I normally hit a 7 iron 150 yards. Pretty course but very difficult.

Great value, worth the visit

Enjoy the course, club and people. Great value using Golfnow.com Great layout, several tee boxes so you can make as tuff as you like. Sand, water, provide challenges. Greens are quick being the dormant season and roll fairly smooth. Wish the west course was available but understanding the circumstances.

challenging layout

Great layout, deceptively challenging because it does not look like it at first (first hole is the easiest of the 18). Greens were fast and true and held well. All holes are unique including a par 4 island green. Plenty of traps and water hazards but very fair.
